The Bridges of Harpers Ferry offer a unique photographic opportunity because of accessibility. The Footbridge to the C&O Canal is on an active railroad bridge, which is very unique, and also crosses the Potomac River just feet upriver from where the Shenandoah River flows into it. It is possible to photograph the railroad bridges from both sides of the river at ground level, below them particularly on the C&O Canal side and from above from the Maryland Heights on one side and Upper Town on the other. The dual track bridge is very busy with both freight and passenger trains. And to add to everything, there is the great tunnel on the Maryland Heights side and a newly restored station on the Harpers Ferry side. Have fun and stay off of the tracks!
